I have QT Pro 7.5 on a bootable FW HD.
I have not got a serial number for it as it was created from QT Player when I installed Final Cut Pro.
When I upgrade my computer to Snow Leopard will I be able to simply drag and drop the QT Pro icon (application) or will it need special installation?

Can't play movies ...
Bit of a long shot this one....
I have a flash card recorder called a MiniD-400 that is designed for security applications
The movie files appear on the SD card as .sdr2 files.
I think that they are mpeg4 files of some flavour but I can't open them on a mac.
There is a CD with a windows only player.
I really want to be able to import them into imovie...
Ideas anyone?

import image sequence including ...
I use Quicktime pro to create movie clips from 3D frame stacks. I then use the QT clips in final cut studio to do my editing.
my 3D app has the capability of generating "negative" frames..that is, frames prior to 0. You can use this when you have a scene all set up, and want to add something which happens before all the other things you've set up; rather than time-shifting everything else foreward, you simply add the new element prior to the 0 point.
QT Pro appears unable to cope with this. It sees the frames with negative frame numbers as being part of a different sequence, so that it will pull in from -072 thru -001, then stop. it also will begin with frame -001, ending on -072, making the clip appear backwards when it is played.
Clicking on the Name column so that -072 is first, doesn't make a difference.
Is there a workaround to this from the Quicktime end of things?
thanks!

Was having the error -10817
decided to reinstall OS after finding no resolution to the error
backed everything up
wiped HD to zeros
reinstalled Leopard
neglected to use sys prefs to enter my QTpro code
installed Snow Leopard and discovered there was no way to enter QTPro code
attempted to install QT7 but the two cannot reside on the same partition?
Trashed QT10 and reinstalled QT7 from SL DVD simply because I need the pro features
Checked for QT updates and as far as I can tell, I now cannot upgrade it to QT10
I really liked the look of QT10 and would like to have it again without having to delete everything and start all over because most of my files are back in place since starting this process on Sunday. Any advice?
thanks in advance,

Quicktime X and 7 won't play self ...
I apologize in advance if this has been posted before, however I could not find a resolution and assume others are having a similar problem.
I have a current model iMac 2.66GHz running Leopard and a current model 13.3" MBP 2.26GHz running Snow Leopard. On the iMac, I've got Final Cut Studio 3 and have exported from Final Cut Studio (using Current Settings) a 4min self-contained .mov file. This file plays fine on the iMac using Quicktime 7.6.4 but when copied across to the MBP, won't play on Quicktime X. I get a "The movie can't be opened" error message. I've tried the same file on a mac mini running Leopard and QT7 and it works fine.
I then installed Quicktime 7.6.3 on the MBP from the Snow Leopard installation discs but that would only play the audio track from the .mov file with no video. I'm assuming I'm not missing any codecs seeing that .mov is the bread and butter of Quicktime, so can anyone offer some advice?

Quicktime Pro 7 and Quicktime Amatuer 10 ...
So in 10.6 we now have two completely different versions of Quicktime - one for people who actually use the Pro features, and one for amateurs looking for a nice lite home movie viewer. Why in the world did Apple not integrate the Pro features into Quicktime 10? I'm furious about this! I use Quicktime for work every single day for previewing clips and exporting with many different codecs. Now in 10.6 I need to have two different versions of the same app running to accomplish my tasks - QT 10 for viewing clips, and QT 7 for exporting and everything else. Of course I could use 7 for both, but what's the point of 10? Arrrgghh!!!
Could someone provide a reasonable explanation of why Apple chose to split a perfectly good app in two? I'm at a total loss to understand their thinking on this one.
thx

Interlacing or HD problem? ...
Hi!
I know this isn't a new issue and I have been reading so much stuff online about it but I can't fathom what to do for the best, so wonder if anyone can help me? (please!)
I have a 14min video edited in imovie and shot with Sony HDR-HC3E camcorder which of course plays fine in imovie (sorry, also not sure if this is imovie or QT problem or both and also posted on the iMovie 6 HD section too), but when exported via QT, full-quality - I have those horrid jagged lines which appear on both my MBP and my TV (once burned to DVD).
This is for a showreel for a film-screening so I have been asked to provide a QT movie which can be compiled along with other QT movies.
One suggestion I have is that this is an interlacing problem and if I check the de-interlace feature in IMovie, then this will sort it out.
Then I have had a conflicting suggestion which says that it is the incompatibility between HD source and SD playback and I should be converting 'down' to SD via FCP.
I am in the middle of the de-interlacing in iMovie solution right now which promises a few hours wait so I am really worrying that this might be futile and that I have been barking up the wrong tree as it were.
Does anyone have an answer(s) to this dilemma?
Should I continue de-interlacing or do the HD to SD comversion, or neither or something else?
By the way, when I just dragged the iMovie file to iDVD and burnt it from there it produced a perfect picture to play on a SD TV but this file-type is no good for me.
A very big thankyou in advance for any help as I am truly confused, frustrated and fearing not getting anywhere, fast.

QT X: Create and export still image? ...
Is there any way in QT X to grab a video frame and export it (full-size) as an image?
I think one could do this with QT 7 Pro (not sure). QT X allows one to trim, but the selection is limited to a duration and must be exported as a movie. I just want a still image from a video frame (and not including the Title Bar or the control bezel).
iMovie can do this, but even there it is awkward (many steps).
Skitch allows window grabs, but clicking on the QT window makes the bezel appear (and I have to run the movie at 100% in order to get an actual frame).
--Thanks.

Screen Recording Video in QTX Not ...
Hi. I have been experimenting with the Screen Record function in the Snow Leopard QT version and after I stop the video, the playback is a bit jerky, not smooth frame rate and sometimes the screen flashes on and off to black for about a second. The video records smooth until I check the playback.
What I have tried doing is; play a song in iTunes ver 9.0.2, turn on the Visualizer function, hit the Screen record button and record 2-3 minutes of video.
Any idea on what I might try to correct the glitch? There doesn't seem to be a Preferences that I can find like in QT 7. Not sure how to change settings in QTX.
Thanks for any help. I have a white MacBook, 2.2 GHz, 4GB RAM, 160 GB HD OSX 10.6.1.

Instead there is a new QT which does not have any PRO functionality, where I can't rotate Videos for example. We film with contour HD Helmet Cameras that produce QT files, and sometimes the horizon is wrong. With Pro you can quickly rotate movies.
How can I get QT Pro back on Snow Leopard?

It appears we've lost functionality for QTL files to work with the QuickTime player in 10.6. The OS doesn't like the fact the QTL files were downloaded from the Internet and warns before opening in QT 7, but they won't work in QT X either.
Looks like the Apple site is using a javascript and dummy QT movie to spawn the QuickTime player for HD. Is this the unofficial way to go for now until QT X is feature full?
